An Evening of Rock N' Roll

Posted: May 9th, 2012

Wiggins Pro-Ductions will be hosting a night of rock n’ roll, Friday June 1 at Black Pirates Pub to help showcase Thunder Bay’s growing music community. The night features 4 local acts jamming out 4 different styles of rock, including folk rock from The Auditor General, stoner rock from Down Converter, indie rock from Hey You Millionaires, and space rock from Ocean City Defender.

The show aims to promote many talented musicians and let the city know that they don’t have to rely on major label artists to hear great music. “Thunder Bay has such an amazing music scene,” says event promoter Jimmy Wiggins, “there are so many talented musicians that need to be heard”.

Doors for this event open at 10pm. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Valid I.D. is required as this is an age of majority event.

New Album from Reverb Bomb

Posted: May 9th, 2012

Rock, Dammit! is the debut album by the Thunder Bay, Ontario based band Reverb Bomb. It represents the band's first two years of jamming and writing. The genre it falls in is "rock", but also bleeds into sub-genres such as "noise rock", "punk rock", and "garage rock".

The music is based around a trio of guitar, drums and bass, but a fair amount of special effects are utilized, mainly distorted vocals and delay/reverb. The songs are often bracing, up-beat and dynamic, featuring swells of feedback and noise, but occasionally atmospheric, with a lot of group singing/shouting. Each member switches instruments, depending on the song.

The album was recorded at a leisurely pace in the band's home studio, when they weren't too busy making delicious sandwiches.
