Bay & Algoma Neighbourhood (outdoor)

Address

Bay Street & Algoma Avenue, Thunder Bay, ON

Description

The Bay & Algoma Neighbourhood is the collection of shops, cafes, and restaurants situated around the junction of pedestrian friendly Bay St. and the Algoma St corridor. It is a destination for cyclists, tourists, shoppers and foodies of all sorts.

The area hosts three cultural centers at the Bay/Algoma intersection celebrating Finnish, Italian and Scandinavian heritage. This uptown business area was a hotspot for migrant workers and their families for decades and is centered around the historic Finnish Labour Temple housing the world famous Hoito Restaurant.

Each year the area is host to multiple cultural events including St. Urho’s Day, Buskers Fest, Festa Italiana and the annual Bay St. Film Festival.
