Harpdog Brown and Jordie Edmonds
Maple Blues Award winner Harpdog Brown and his guitarist/right-hand-man
Jordie Edmonds will be making a stop at the Apollo Bar this Wednesday night.
It’s a show any music lover will enjoy, especially blues fans. He’s been
called a Blues Evangelist and with good reason. "I speak the blues like it's
the truth and it is! I do feel like I'm a servant of the people. And I know
that music, particularly blues music, does heal people-if they listen to the
good messages in the songs I choose.”
Vancouver-based Harpdog Brown was born in Edmonton in 1962, an adopted child
who has felt detached his whole life — “a lifelong uphill battle of not
feeling like I belonged. I think I was born for traveling and there’s no
better way to travel than with a blues band! The Blues tapped me on the
shoulder and said ‘this is where you belong, son’. Blues is healing.
It’s a beautiful celebration of our perfectly flawed lives. We help people
forget about their issues for a moment and then they realize that we all have
them, and that’s ok!”
“By sharing our music, we give people a chance to forget about their daily
troubles and enjoy themselves. Through blues music we get to see that we all
have things to deal with and it’s OK! Blues ain’t just about the bad,
it’s also about the glad” said Brown.
Brown is a two-time Maple Blues Award winner, Juno nominee and two-time West
Coast Music Award nominee. He is fresh off an 8 week tour of Canada
supporting his new release Travelin’ with the Blues! The album has
received 3 Maple Blues Award nominations this year including, Harmonica
Player, Male Vocalist and Album of the Year! As John the Rock Doctor stated
in his GonzoOkanagan review, “If somebody asks you “what do the blues
sound like?”, this is the disc you need to play for them” Certainly if
you are a fan of Blues music, this is a must-have for your collection.
