OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
TOKYO POLICE CLUB ANNOUNCE CANADIAN TOUR DATES
(June 21, 2010) Tokyo Police Club return home for a string of dates across Canada including a highly-anticipated appearance with the Flaming Lips in Toronto.
David Monks (vocals, bass), Josh Hook (guitar), Greg Alsop (drums), and Graham Wright (keys/percussion) formed in 2005 and released the debut EP A Lesson In Crime the following year to instant and universal acclaim. A few world tours later, Tokyo Police Club’s first full length album, Elephant Shell was released in April 2008. Elephant Shell’s release was preceded by multiple sold out shows and appearances on The Late Show With David Letterman, The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson and Desperate Housewives. Critical response to the full length was even more enthusiastic and diverse, not only with Canadian media but with major international magazines such as GQ, Elle, Spin, Rolling Stone and Men’s Health all giving thumbs up. Their sophomore album Champ (available on Dine Alone Records in Canada) was released on June 8, 2010 and is enjoying similar acclaim.
Recently, the band announced a contest to embrace the spirit of their latest album The “Champ Championship” calls on fans to challenge the band to “something…anything.” Fans can enter their ideas at TokyoPoliceClub.com and winners will have access to tickets, merchandise, etc. and the chance to hang with the guys while competing in whatever activity they submitted.
Currently on tour in the US with Passion Pit, the band took a day off from touring to shoot a video for the single “Wait Up (Boots of Danger)” with director Mike Juneau in Toronto. Tokyo Police Club will soon head to Europe to perform on festival stages before embarking on their first US headline tour in support of Champ. The band then returns to Canada. These guys know how to make wasted youth blister, and Champ is brimming with radio-ready, “woo hoo” hooks…it’s Monks’ worn-out benevolence that most separates TPC from other buzz-bin bullshit worth no more than a few megabytes. – Pitchfork.com
If you’re still on the lookout for album of the summer, this could be it. – Exclaim! Magazine
…you’ll be hard-pressed to find a hook as catchy as the “ooh-ooh-oohwoo-ooh-hoo” refrain to “Boots of Danger (Wait Up)” this summer. – Toronto Star
