“A Union of People and Song: A Tribute to Einar Nordstrom

Thunder Bay Public Library 285 Red River Rd, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada

Please join Teresa-Lee Cooke, author. The book about the life and work of Einar Nordstrom is a compilation of history, memories of friends and family, photographs and poetry. It tells of a gentle man who came to Canada from Finland to find work and found – The Great Depression. He worked, often with little compensation, and rode the rails in his quest for a job and a place to settle.  Like many Scandinavian people, he found his way to the picturesque city on the northern shores of Lake Superior and never left. In addition to becoming a labour leader dedicated to preserving the history of the working class, he created a safe place in Port Arthur, Ontario, for the local youth during the 1960s and 70s.  He became a major figure in the Folk Music and concert scene.  Without him, Canada would have been a poorer place for both people and song. There will be a short presentation from the author and a musical dedication by musician, Ken Hamm, as a tribute to his friend, Einar Nordstrom.
